Backlink Factors

What are Backlink Factors?

Backlinks play a significant role in building the domain authority or domain rating of your site. Here are some factors to consider when it comes to backlinks:

1. Types of backlinks

There are two types of backlinks - follow and nofollow. A follow backlink passes what is called link juice which is what you need to improve the rating of your site.

On the other hand, a nofollow backlink does not pass any link juice. It may still be beneficial for your site but it will not have the benefit that a follow backlink has.

2. Linking pages URL

The page that’s linking to you is another factor that affects your domain authority or domain rating. The more important a page that is linking to you, the more value you will get from it.

For instance, if the site’s homepage is linking to your site, you will most likely get the most value compared to if it’s a page with little authority.

3. Link text

The link text or anchor text also plays a role in improving domain authority or domain rating. One common way is to use the name of your site as the link text.

However, you can utilize the link text and get even more value out of it if you include a keyword that you want to rank for. For example, if your keyword is “SEO course,” instead of using “[name of site]” as your link text, you can use something like, “Click here for the best SEO course.”

4. Trust and relevance from the referring domain

It is important to determine the type of sites that are linking to you in terms of trustworthiness and relevance. It’s not always about the number of backlinks but also the quality.

You need to check the kind of sites that are linking to you. You may have hundreds of backlinks but if these are all spammy websites, it will not be beneficial for you.

In terms of relevance, make sure that the sites linking to you are relevant to your site as well. If a site has a high domain authority but is not relevant to your site, it will not add much value.

What you need is a high domain authority site that is relevant to you. One example is a competitor’s site. That will be more advantageous for your site.
