Off-Page SEO Factors

What are Off-Page SEO Factors?

Off-page search engine optimization, or off-page or off-site SEO, refers all the things that you do outside of your site to improve rankings in search results. Here are some of the most important factors when it comes to off-page SEO:

1. Number of linking domains

It would be great if your site has a lot of domains that link to your site. In general, the more domains that link to you, the better or more popular your site must be.

2. Backlink anchor text

Another factor to take into account is the anchor text or link text that is used in the link back to your site. Aim for a good combination of branded link text, the actual URL, as well as targeted keywords and descriptive terms.

3. Links from .gov and .edu

Your site will get a lot of value from .gov sites, which are government websites, as well as .edu sites, which are websites of universities and colleges.

4. Authority of linking domains

It’s not just about the number of linking domains but also the quality. Obviously, links from high domain authority sites provide more value.

5. Diversity of link types

Make sure to have diversity of link types, from follow links and no follow links, to those from different domains such as .com, .gov, .org, .ca, etc.

6. New backlink velocity

Are you adding new backlinks regularly? Is it slowing down? Is your site losing links? Make sure to add new backlinks at a good pace.

7. Number of outbound links on a page

How many outbound links on a page link to your site?  A spammy webpage that contains a lot of links to your site may have a negative impact on your off-page SEO efforts, compared to a page with just a few relevant links and one of them links to your site.

8. Sitewide links

Sitewide links refer to the links to your site in the footer of another website. These are treated as no-follow links since these appear on every page which would be seen as spammy. Therefore, sitewide links do not add any value.

9. Chrome bookmarks

Some people bookmark sites in a Chrome browser for easier access when they want to check the site again. If your webpage is bookmarked in more browsers, it’s a plus for your off-page SEO strategy.

10. Number of blog comments

Another useful off-page SEO factor is the number of relevant comments in your blog.

11. Brand signals and social media

How often your brand name is mentioned in the media is also significant. As for social media, your site may benefit from solid accounts with a lot of followers.

12. Clickthrough rate, bounce rate, etc.

Make sure to also check the clickthrough rate and bounce rate of people who visit your site as these factors may provide value.
