The key to earning backlinks is to create a reason for other websites to link to you. What can your site offer? Is it valuable for them?

Creating relevant articles may be the first thing that comes to mind, but there are other ways to earn backlinks. Listed below are eight proven strategies that will help build your backlink profile.

8 Strategies for Earning Backlinks

1. Studies

It does not matter how big or how small your company or website is, you can create a study about a topic that is relevant to what you offer. Do some research and ask people some questions.

When creating a study, make sure to add some graphs, charts, and quotes, and don’t forget to cite your sources. Put it into a nice PDF file and reach out to other websites that may benefit from it.

2. Infographics

You can use the study to create an infographic as a standalone page or asset, leveraging the same information so you can get the most out of your content. Many websites like to link to or feature infographics.

3. Surveys

Come up with a live survey on your site. Universities and other sites may be interested in it and inform their users to take part in the survey.

4. Awards/Prizes

Another common strategy to earn backlinks to your site is to have giveaways or awards or prizes. You may do this regularly and show all the people who have won awards or prizes. Other sites will want to link back to you to see how many people have won.

5. Interviews

Interesting interviews are also a great way to earn backlinks. You can reach out to other sites that may find your interviews helpful and link back to your website.

6. Guest Blog

If you’re an expert on a subject, you can reach out to other relevant websites and offer to be a guest blogger or guest poster, provided that they will link back to your website as the author of that article or post.

7. Broken Links

You can use tools such as Ahrefs to find broken links on topics that are related to an asset that you’ve created. You can earn backlinks by reaching out to websites, pointing out the broken links, and offering your asset or page to link to instead.

8. Scholarships

Similar to the strategy of offering awards or prizes, creating scholarships is specifically targeting universities. Many universities in the United States have .edu domains that are high-trust backlinks, so having these domains linking to you will be valuable.

You can create an application form for a scholarship and ask universities to inform their students about it. Then, choose one or more scholars and inform the university about it. You’ll have a higher chance of earning backlinks.
