Domain Authority and
Domain Rating

What Do Domain Authority and Domain Ranking Mean?

What is domain authority? Domain rating? They basically refer to how strong your domain is compared to competitors. They influence how your site is ranked in search engine results pages.

Domain Authority

Domain authority is a search engine ranking score developed by Moz. It predicts how likely it is to rank in search engine results pages.

Sites are ranked from 1 to 100. The higher the number is, the greater the likelihood of ranking. Sites with very high domain authority include Facebook, Google, Amazon, and Wikipedia.

In general, it’s easier for huge sites like the above to have high domain authority, but it does not mean that other sites cannot outrank them. If you have a specialized site with high-quality content, it can have higher domain authority.

Domain Rating

Domain rating is the same thing as domain authority. Developed by Ahrefs, domain rating uses a 100-point scale. The higher your site is on the scale, the more likely it is to rank in search engine results pages.

Key Takeaways

Both domain authority and domain rating are part of your backlink profile, which also includes the number of backlinks to your site, their quality, and how authoritative they are. While it’s great to have a 100-level domain authority or domain rating, the goal is to have a higher domain authority or rating than your closest competitors in your area of specialization.

If you can create better content, you can outrank them in results pages. In the end, it’s all about having a high domain authority with relevant content and providing a better user experience.
